Cosby Primary School

The Academy conversion process was made easier both to manage and to understand as a direct result of the involvement of Ed Nurse and his team from BHW Solicitors.

Ed’s personal approach, his willingness to meet face to face with a range of staff and governors and his unending patience in explaining all the legal terminology and requirements, meant that all parties were well informed and Ed came to know the school and our requirements very well, resulting in a tailor-made approach to our conversion.

We enjoyed excellent service throughout the process: from telephone calls and email correspondence, through to visits in person, Ed and his team were punctual and professional and our endless questions and queries were always taken seriously!

We valued the time taken to meet to talk through and discuss each stage of the process, allowing us to ask questions, have elements explained and re-explained and we always ended a meeting knowing that we had moved forward in the process and that someone else would progress with the next stage of the work on our behalf. The locally based service meant that meetings could be arranged quickly and easily and documentation could be collected or hand-delivered if necessary.

Although there is no denying that the process is long and time consuming with a great deal of additional work, particularly for the School Business Manager, I have no doubt that the workload would have been significantly increased and far more difficult without the services of BHW. The process was handled professionally and to planned timescales throughout. The calm, professional manner of Ed and his team enabled us to confidently leave matters in their hands. I can unreservedly recommend Ed and BHW Solicitors to anyone embarking on this journey who appreciates a personal, professional and patient approach to what could otherwise be a long, complicated and frustrating process.

Thomas Estley Community College

September 2012

The college sought conversion as part of an Umbrella Trust with, initially, three partner schools/colleges. With a view to other schools joining the Trust at a later date, senior staff from those schools were invited to attend all meetings and discussions. This was facilitated very effectively by BHW who showed a clear grasp of the issues and the need for flexibility. This was a unique scenario and at no time was reference made to “what worked elsewhere”. It was clear throughout the entire process that we would develop a bespoke Trust with articles firmly agreed by all partners.  Everyone had an equal voice and all queries and questions were researched by BHW and answered in full.  This created a confidence in heads and business managers and reassured governors that the best interests of their individual schools would be served. Much time was spent on individual school issues and finding solutions that were to everyone’s satisfaction.

Agreed timelines were always met, meetings were efficient, kept to time and thoroughly professional. The calm approach and easy availability of staff made for an extremely professional yet friendly relationship. All team members exceeded our high expectations and quickly became valued partners in what was a smooth process.

Time given to face to face meetings, to listening to specific aims, to providing the solutions sought by schools was outstanding. Literally nothing was too much trouble and a “can do” approach prevailed throughout. It was refreshing to deal with staff who became part of “our team”, staff in whom we had every confidence and trust. At no point were we delayed waiting for a response and the proximity of BHW to our colleges/schools enabled us to deal face to face whenever it was necessary. All milestones and deadlines were met and the administrative burden borne by the college was much reduced. Ed’s interventions were timely, well-informed and clear in their expectations. Without doubt this had a major impact on us hitting our ambitious conversion date.  As the time for conversion approached we were kept in the loop at every stage. College staff received great support in understanding what at times could have been impenetrable documentation – support for which we are hugely appreciative.

The whole conversion process was made clear, positive and at all times we felt completely in control of the process. This was due in no small part to the expertise, patience, professionalism and attention to individual institutions’ need of Ed and his team. I am absolutely certain that we received the very best of support.

Leysland High School

September 2012

On behalf of Leysland High School, I would like to say thank you to Ed Nurse, Alex Clifton and all your team, for their very approachable manner and efficient handling of any questions we had.

You gave us a very personal approach, nothing was too much trouble. Plenty of time was spent on the group and us as an individual school. Attendance at governor meetings was appreciated.

Service levels were very high and met our expectations. The team were easy to get hold of, either via email or phone. We were more than happy with the team and Partner contact.

More than enough time was given to meetings. Step by step guidance helped us to understand processes etc. Having a local firm was very useful.

Target conversion date was achieved as were the key milestones. We did not feel overburdened with the administrative and project management, as we originally didn’t know what to expect!.

Ed and the team were patient, supportive and very professional throughout the process, their reassurance important during my numerous periods of doubt.
